Well everyone, only five days remain in the month of January. What happened to me? Well first, I was thoroughly exhausted by the change of the year, so I took a little break. Just as well, my birthday was the 24th so I had plenty to occupy my time. Though I haven’t posted this month (and probably won’t until next month), I have been busy. Namely, I have been writing up a storm, and hope to publish my completed chapters of my proposed novel online, most likely on my other blog, Across the Universe (still need to update that site too…). So, I suppose that’s it for this month, lots of reviews next month, starting with Top 8 Movies That Were Great as Kids but Actually Suck. Until February, everyone have a good one.
Directed By: Wayne Wang
Starring: Queen Latifah and LL Cool J
Summary: Georgia Byrd (Queen Latifah), a cookware employee at a local store, finds out she is dying of brain cancer and decides to spend all of her built-up money on an expensive vacation. Eventually, Georgia helps everyone live a better life, finds out she is not dying, and marries her co-worker, Sean Williams (LL Cool J).
Opinion: Though this movie is definately not an excellent film, I still enjoyed it. It’s humor is quirky and it carries a good message, to live life to the fullest. If you like feel-good movies, this isn’t too bad of a choice. Plus, the director’s name is Wayne Wang.

Well, let me start off by saying Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Just wanted to have a little site update before the beginning of 2010. Just a little news, there is going to be a new series in January, not sure what, but ideas are welcome. Second of all, at the start of 2010 I will launch my new blog, atu.wordpress.com. This site will just be kind of a random blog about stuff I like as well as some other stuff, I’m not really sure yet. So, that’s about it…once again have a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a Happy New Year!
To end this whole review saga, here is my absolute favorite Christmas movie of all time, A Christmas Story. When it comes to a well-written Christmas movie, you won’t find any better. I especially love that the movie is from a kid’s perspective, which makes it more of a movie to remember when you were a kid. I think my favorite parts are when he imagines crazy situations that he can get in, from going blind from soap or killing bad guys with his Red Ryder; especially because I imagined things like that when I was young. Ironically, the director of this movie, Bob Clark, had previously directed another holiday movie, the horror film Black Christmas. All in all, this movie is as close a perfect representation of childhood Christmases as one can find.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone!
Well, I finally got to go and see Disney’s latest holiday film, A Christmas Carol in 3D. Though being directed by Robert Zemeckis and featuring a phenomenal performance by Jim Carrey, the movie just seemed…off somehow. Personally, I think it might be because the movie focused so much on the 3D and the effects, it actually took away from Jim Carrey amazing performance. A good movie to be sure, just not great.

Riding off the success of National Lampoon’s Vacation, Chevy Chase is back with more shenanigans in this Christmas-themed comedy. This movie is surprisingly great for a sequel, featuring many jokes interlaced with a more tender theme. Personally, I just love this movie, and I’m pretty sure everyone wishes they could kidnap and beat up their boss. Though getting on in years, this movie still remains a holiday comedy classic. Check it out.

Well, what more is there to say? This movie remains a holiday staple with its timeless message. James Stewart of course is excellent, as well as female co-star Donna Reed. For being a relatively simple film, this movie is able to rise above and become a classic holiday movie.

This short animated film is simply wonderful. With amazing visuals, a good storyline, and unique use of the “silent movie” theme, this movie scores in the best of holiday films. Though having only one song, Walking in the Air, that one song is amazing. Truly one of my most beloved movies from childhood and still a great show to watch.

Yes, I know its not a Christmas movie, but I just saw this movie so here it is. Now, many people are saying how Avatar’s graphics are the best ever. And they are. Really, it felt like I was on Pandora. The story was a tad cliche, but it was still great. Once again, though, the graphics are the strongest points of the film. Seriously, I felt sad walking out of the theater because I knew real life wasn’t anywhere as cool as Pandora and the Na’vi. So, all in all a great film, and definately worth seeing, in 2D or 3D.
